FORFAR Road Runners were blessed with a perfect day for the annual Forfar 10K road race.
After weeks of unsettled weather the sun shone, giving the runners perfect conditions in which to perform. Andrew Murphy of Fife AC led home a strong field in 35:19, ahead of Gordon Barrie of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers in 35:54 and Ross Christie (36:20).
Edel Mooney of Lothian Running Club was placed sixth overall to win the ladies title, ahead of club-mate Chloe Cox (38:13) and third-placed Alison McGill (39:34).
Dundee Hawkhill Harriers pipped Aberdeen Metro to the men’s team prize, with Fife AC taking the ladies title, ahead of Lothian Running Club and Forfar Road Runners.
In the local category, Rory Collins from Letham took the men’s prize ahead of Gavin Durston from Eassie and Jack Davies of Forfar Road Runners.
For the ladies, Tracy Morgan pipped Donna Pass and Yvonne Collins of Letham.
A fast 10k taking you out of Forfar into the countryside along a main road, turning left onto a minor road with a strategically placed water station. With a gentle meander and across a road (staggered junction) we run behind Lunanhead towards the football ground and back to the Finish line.
The Forfar 10K is the towns main event in August and now attracts fields in excess of 300 runners. The race was originally known as the Maggie Storey 10K but after years of loss making and a charity who would not underwrite the running costs of the event which saw club members vote to sever ties with the charity. 2001 saw the Club sponsor the race and underwrite the costs, with efforts from club members and volunteers has seen the race grown steadily.
